If you look closely at the Table of Contents, you’ll notice something about this issue of Empire Chess that has not been the case for many years. There isn’t an article by Bill Townsend. Bill has been quite busy with the running of his business and all that entails, so he has decided to take a break from Empire Chess. As much as we’ll miss him, we know that there are things even more important than our magazine, and we wish Bill every success in all of his endeavors.
In the last editorial, we bid adieu to Bill Hall, former USCF Executive Director. Mr. Hall has played in a couple tournaments since leaving his post in Crossville, but has not been active in the organizational side of the chess world. Our understanding is that he is looking for non-chess employment in Crossville, and we wish him well in that endeavor.
May was the end of the line for former U.S. Chess Federation
Executive Director Bill Hall. Hall sent a letter to the USCF Executive
Director saying he was leaving for personal reasons. Texas chess
organizer Francisco Guadelupe is the Interim Director, and a
nationwide search is taking place for a new Executive Director.
