In an effort to make NYSCA membership more attractive and to obtain more members that actually purchase memberships regularly, the organization is switching from a membershiprequired model to one where discounts are offered at a variety of tournaments, including the New York State Championships but also including the Continental Chess Association and Chess Center of New York tournaments. Spring 2012 – Empire Chess

New York has a three-time scholastic champion for the first time  in its history. Deepak Aaron made history in Saratoga early in March winning the State Scholastic for the third time. That is history New York Hall of Famers like Joel Benjamin couldn’t generate, and yes, the New York State Scholastic has been around long enough that Hall of Famers are among its champions. Over 500 players made it to the tournament, the most in recent years, and a sign that the recent slow economic times may be coming to an end. 2012 Winter Issue

Santa’s Champions in BuffaloA new year is here, and it‟s another exciting year for chess. On the international level, one of our former champions, Hikaru Nakamura, is lighting up the world stage and hopefully working toward a threat on the world title.
